AMC Basic Outdoor Rock Climbing School – Day 2

This is the second session of the AMC Basic Outdoor Rock Climbing School. If you’ve never climbed before, or want to transition from the gym to real rock, or have climbed with friends but want to fill those learning gaps, this class is for you.

You must be an AMC member and a class fee is required. For more details and registration information, go to http://arizonamountaineeringclub.net/schools/outdoor-rock-climbing-school/

The class spans two weeks with four weeknight sessions at a local park and three full weekend days out on the rock at various crags. You will learn all the basic climbing skills including: equipment care and usage, rope handling, climbing knots, climbing calls, belaying, rappelling, climbing techniques, and basic self-rescue. All required gear is provided by the club, including helmet, harness, carabiners, belay/rappel device, prusiks and webbing, and a comprehensive reference manual. The carabiners (one parabiner, two lockers, and two ovals), the belay device, four prusiks, webbing, and manual are yours to keep.

AMC is an all-volunteer organization and the classes are only possible because of the generous donation of time from our members. Class fees are collected only to cover operational expenses. If you’re an experienced member or an alumnus of the class, come on out and help instruct. All AMC members are welcome and encouraged to participate and assist in the class.
