AMC Outing: The Praying Monk East Face (5.3, 5.7 alternate start) 2 Pitch climb

Tuesday, November 27, 2018

Route:
The Monk is a classic climb on Camelback Mountain with a spectacular view of Phoenix from the top. It is two single pitches (the headwall and the Monk itself), followed by a great free hanging rappel off the Monk and another rappel off the headwall. https://www.mountainproject.com/route/105801358/east-face

Leader:
Scott Piquet 480-363-1441 ke7mro@gmail.com

Seconds:

Attendees:
Will be added to the wait list automatically and then accepted based on AMC membership verification.

Approach:
15-minute moderate hike from the Echo Canyon TH.

Bring:
Headlamp, sunscreen, hat, camera and other items you normally take hiking.

Windbreaker. There will be periods of time when the attendee climbers will be sitting at the base or on top of the climb after hiking/climbing and sweating. It is easy to get a chill in the wind.

Climbing shoes, and ALL climbing gear (webbing, prusiks, biners, rappel device, etc.) from the basic class. You also need a helmet, harness and/or personal anchor, if you’re using club issued gear.

Water – recommend at least 2 liters of water. Bring a container that you can clip on your harness or a camelback with one liter of water to carry up the climb.

Food – Lunch and/or snacks

Pack – A daypack works best on the climb. Fanny packs get in the way of your harness. Everything you bring on the climb, including hat and sunglasses, should be attached to you or fit in your pack, or leave in your main pack at the base of the Monk.

Weather:
Check the weather forecast on the days leading up to the climb. If the forecast includes rain, call your Leader the evening prior to see if plans have changed.

Meeting:
9:00 at Echo Canyon Trail Head. Plan to leave the parking lot at 9:21 AM for the climb.

Safety
Safety is our #1 goal. It is everyone’s job. AMC language: Climbing is a personal choice and requires personal responsibility. Climbing and associated activities are dangerous and can result in injury and/or death. Climbing exposes you to risks. Risks are not eliminated

Trip participants are selected at the discretion of the outing leader and will be chosen from the wait list.

PLEASE BE ON TIME!!!
