Single-Pitch Top Rope Outing and Anchor Practice

This is an official AMC Outing for active members. This outing is going to be held at Cactus Flower East and will supplement the curriculum taught in the AMC Anchors Class. Preference will be given to members that just took the Anchors Class (fall 2017/ spring 2018) and who are seeking additional experience in a new location while having facilitated instruction.

There will be an AMC Outing Leader (Chris Adams) and AMC Outing Leader Prospect (Mac McCaleb) hosting this event. To maximize the fun and learning, we are limiting the outing to only 12 participants. All participants will be sent to the waitlist until we can confirm current membership. This outing is designed to give the participants practice using anchor building skills learned in class. Any climbers are still welcome to attend after Anchors class students have been given priority. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn.

We will put into practice the fundamentals covered of building anchors for top-roping outdoors and provide some techniques that maximize your enjoyment on the rock. Each person should bring all of their personal equipment and equipment they own to construct top-rope anchors at the crag. This includes, but is not limited to: All personal climbing gear (helmet, harness, shoes, prussics, belay device) Lockers, Static Line, Slings/Webbing/Cordelette, Active/Passive Protection. Bring anything you want to practice with. The AMC will also provide static line, webbing and dynamic lines for climbing. We will also be refining and streamlining top-rope setups to maximize safety, efficiency, and versatility while climbing out at the crag.

Members can expect to build and construct their own anchors using a mix of bolts, active/passive protection, and monolithic features. Anchors will then be evaluated and used for climbing on several different routes. Members do not need to have experience at this crag before the outing, just come join in to refine your anchors knowledge, climb some routes, and enjoy some AZ sunshine!

Current Weather Forecast for Pinnacle Peak:
Sunny, High of 85 deg and Low of 63 deg; bring sun protection, ample water, and snacks/light lunch.
