Dana John Wentzel, Climbing Kilimanjaro

It can be life-changing. It can be exhilarating. It can be tough. It can be dangerous. Whether or not you reach the summit- it’s not guaranteed- the experience is unforgettable! The summit is the culmination of all the hard work you’ve put into it. Training, having the right gear, traveling around the world to make an epic journey. The hard work you put into taking yourself from the gate of the Kilimanjaro National Park, all the way to Uhuru Peak, 19,340′ above sea level. It is arguably the “easiest” of the Seven Summit. Kilimanjaro requires no technical skill to get to the top. There is nothing stopping you from attempting it. Yet, statistics vary from 50-65% success rate. Come join us as John Dana Wentzel shares his amazing African experience.

Dana John Wentzel is a former Sergeant in the Marine Corps where one of his duties was to teach land navigation. He is also the Organizer of AHOTE: Arizona Hiking & Off-Trail Explorers. This presentation will consist of a slideshow of photos from his 17 day trip to Tanzania. On this trip, he did the 10-Day Lemosho route (8 days on the mountain) to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Additionally, he went on a 5-day safari to Lake Manyara National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, and Serengeti National Park. He will be discussing how to prepare for climbing Kilimanjaro, the gear you’ll need, and give a brief day-by-day account of my trip. He will also give tips and advise people on what to do and not to do when it comes to booking their Tanzania trip.
