This is fantastic granite top rope climbing from 5.2 to 5.10, with plenty in between. One 5.1, One 5.2, One 5.3, Two 5.4’s, Four 5.5’s, Three 5.6’s, Three 5.7’s, Five 5.8’s, Four 5.9’s, Five 5.10’s, and a bonus climb of 5.12 to test your “Desperate Scratch” ability.
Drive an hour and a half north of Phoenix by Watson Lake and hike 15 minutes to some very fine hundred foot cliffs of granite. Hike includes some class III scrambling.
We’ll meet at 8am on Sunday March 4th at Maverick Adventures First Stop Gas Station and Convenience Store on the corner of HI way 69 and Fain Road.
Address: 1344 North Prescott Country Club, Dewey, AZ 86327. Take I-17 north to the Prescott exit for HI way 69 and continue to Fain Road. The Maverick Station is on the left.
The historic temps for our visit will be between low 50’s and mid 60’s so dress accordingly.
Suggest moisture wicking clothing in layers like: Short sleeve poly, long sleeve poly, light weight fleece, and an outer shell with gloves and a poly hat that can be worn under your helmet.
Long pants will be needed, and some may want long underwear. But, if you know the mountains after noon may be T-shirt nice. Don’t forget your Sunglasses and Sunscreen.
Personal equipment in addition to clothing includes Approach Shoes, Harness with Belay/Rappel device, Autoblock, Prussiks, personal anchor, gloves and enough locking carabiners for all that’s mentioned. Don’t forget helmet, rock climbing shoes (yes people have forgotten those), lunch and snacks, headlamp, and plenty of water for the day.
You will be required to carry ropes and other gear, so please bring an appropriate backpack.
