Join Steph Furniss (Outing Leader) for top rope climbing in the McDowell Mountains on Sunday, November 19, 2017. Girlie Man is popular as a beginner area with seven routes that range from 5.2 to 5.10. The north-facing wall will be shaded all day.

AMC Membership is Required. You are a current AMC Member if your 2017 club dues have been paid and you have a signed AMC waiver on file.
In order to be selected for this climb you should have completed AMC Basic School or have equivalent climbing experience. All climbers interested in joining this meetup will be placed on the Waitlist until your membership status has been approved.
When you RSVP, you’ll be asked for your full name, email, and phone number. Your contact information is needed to verify club membership and to facilitate communication for the Outing Leader. Individuals who do not respond to the Meetup question when RSVPing or do not have current AMC membership will be moved to Not Going by the Outing Leader.
Qualifying participants will be moved from Waitlist to Going by the Outing Leader beginning 24 hours after the meetup has been posted. Selection is at the discretion of the Outing Leader (will not follow first-come, first-served) and will favor participants of AMC Basic or Anchors School in Fall 2017.
Group will be limited to ten total climbers. Please know that if you are Going, you are holding one of ten spots. No Shows or midnight changes to Not Going (barring a true last-minute emergency) are NOT OK, so please honor your commitment to the rest of the climbing team.
We will meet at Tom’s Thumb Trailhead at 7:15am for a short hike to the base of the climb. Please be on time! If interested in carpooling, you can use the comments below to arrange.
Tom’s Thumb Trailhead: 23015 N 128th St, Scottsdale, AZ, 85255 (North on Pima, East on Happy Valley and follow brown signs to Tom’s Thumb Trailhead.
Make sure your backpack can hold an AMC rope plus all of your personal gear including harness, helmet, shoes, ATC, autoblock, sunscreen, headlamp, food, lots of water (4 liters). Note – a climbing helmet is required!
Historical Average Temperatures: 51f to 72f. Be ready for any weather.
